About the Team: 
Airways Training is a registered Private Training Provider (PTE), and NZQA accredited training academy that provides world class aviation training to ANSPs world-wide, including New Zealand.

Our highly skilled and experienced instructors, cutting-edge training and simulation technologies, and are recognised internationally. Training services include ab initio training, professional develop training to existing Air Traffic Controllers, supporting our trainees and instructional staff during on job training, Aviation English training, and consultancy services.

About the Role:
Due to retirement, we have a permanent full-time opportunity for an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) Instructor to join our Airways International Limited (AIL) team based at our Christchurch campus.

Reporting to the Head of Air Traffic Services (ATS) Training, you’ll be tasked with developing, preparing and delivering domestic and international ATC ab initio training courses and other Air Traffic Services courses in accordance with ICAO, NZ CAA, Airways and NZQA frameworks.

This will require you to be proficient in skill deficiency diagnosis and skill enhancement in line with the Training Centre’s train for success philosophy.

You may be occasionally required to travel internationally to deliver training.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring quality training outcomes with measurable, demonstrable effectiveness that meet and exceed customer expectation
  • Contributing and providing leadership in support of AIL Training management teams strategic and business objectives
  • Delivering both domestic and international ATC and specialist training, in both our face to face and virtual classrooms; and in our TotalControl simulators
  • Preparing and conducting transparent and fair assessments, and report on student progress
  • Designing curricula, syllabi and developing courseware, including undertaking research on training developments with a view to improving teaching methods and outcomes
  • Ad hoc tasks as arise to ensure a streamlined, efficient process.

About You:
Due to the nature of the role, you’ll hold a proactive and solution-oriented approach to identified challenges with the cultural awareness and sensitivity to effectively work with students of differing backgrounds.

Additionally, you’ll hold:

  • An ATC instructor and/or assessment qualification
  • An ATC rating in Aerodrome Control and either Procedural  Approach in Class D airspace or surveillance
  • Proven experience providing on-the-job training in an ATC operational environment
  • Ability to effectively utilise the MS Office Suite including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint
  • Meticulousness in checking processes and outputs for accuracy and completeness
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work constructively with various stakeholders, including staff, managers, and students
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work autonomously towards meeting objectives and deadlines
  • Focus on continuous development with forward-thinking mindset and a self-starting approach
  • Culturally sensitive, being considerate and confident when dealing with others
  • The ability to work in a dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience and agility, take ownership, and focus on delivering successful outcomes.

Beneficial:

  • Tertiary qualification in an education and aviation or management domain
  • Experience as an instructor in an air traffic control simulator
  • Pilot licence
  • Classroom instructional technique exposure and/or training
  • Course delivery to adult foreign language students.
