About the Team:
The business unit is responsible for financial management, property, investment and governance functions ensuring effective stewardship of the business and efficient allocation of resource to deliver outcomes established in the business plan.

  • Treasury
  • Enterprise project management
  • Commercial Procurement & Property
  • Financial systems.

About the Role:
Due to internal mobility, with the prior incumbent stepping into the National Asset Manager (Property) role, we have permanent full-time opportunity for a Buildings Maintenance Manager to join us at our Christchurch based campus.

In this role you’ll ensure that Airways manned buildings are appropriately maintained and compliant with all relevant legislative and Airways policies and requirements. This includes holding appropriate code compliance (Building Compliance Schedule and Building Warrant of Fitness) supported by a comprehensive 10-year building maintenance asset plan.

Additionally, you’ll work closely with the National Asset Manager (Property) to manage the day-to-day maintenance activities (opex and capex works) across the building portfolio collaborating with Airways operational and technical teams. 

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Providing support and guidance for all building maintenance needs, managing daily activities across 18 Air Traffic Control Towers and main Radar Centres through an external maintenance contractor, whilst overseeing and carrying out maintenance management directly when required.
  • Preparing, issuing and reviewing competitive quotations and tenders for both operational and capital works, in conjunction with the Procurement Advisor.
  • Supporting the 10-year building maintenance asset management plan.
  • Ensuring capital works are supported by a scope of works / specification and Business Investment Case (if required) and work-flowed utilising Sentient PPM (project management software). 
  • Overseeing relationship between Airways and key maintenance partners.

About You:
Due to the nature of the role and our operations, you'll be comfortable working in a complex, regulated environment with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

Additionally, you will have:

  • 5+ years’ experience managing large external facilities maintenance contracts, including the maintenance, design and construction of buildings.
  • Experience with project methodologies, project management and budget management. 
  • Proven ability to deliver safe, compliant and high‑quality outcomes in a complex environment.
  • Sound knowledge of safety legislation, supported by relevant qualifications in construction or occupational safety, and the ability to apply these requirements in a practical, safety‑first maintenance environment.
  • Efficient user of the MS Office suite, including MS Teams and SharePoint.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic business environment, collaborate with people internally and externally, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful business outcomes.

Beneficial:

  • Relevant tertiary degree in technical or business management or equivalent experience in building maintenance industry in New Zealand/or internationally.
  • A background in mechanical engineering.
  • A solid understanding of mechanical building services such as HVAC, and associated control systems.
  • Experience working and engaging at a senior level within a government or government‑related organisation, with the ability to communicate clearly, influence decision‑making and manage complex stakeholder expectations.
