About the Team:
The Finance Team is responsible for the overall financial management and support processes within Airways, including transaction accounting, financial reporting, and general ledger support to business units, financial IT systems, procurement, property management, capital planning, statutory reporting and management reporting.

About the Role:
Parental leave, 9-month fixed term opportunity to join our Christchurch (Burnside) based team.

Reporting into the Head of Financial Planning & Performance, as Management Accountant you will support the Core Business Partnering Team with the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of financial and operational information for management.  

This role will also assist with financial planning and project reporting. 

Key Focus Areas:

  • Supporting month-end processes including journal preparation, reviewing accruals and transactional analysis.
  • Forecasting, variable analysis and ad hoc analysis as needed.
  • Delivering data and insights that drive commercial outcomes and inform key decisions.
  • Providing project support including detailed project reporting, monthly reporting and related forecasting.
  • Leading the development of business unit and cost centre level budgets.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the customers and provides suggestions on improvements that are effective and simple to use.

About You:
To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Commerce / Accountancy.
  • 4+ years’ experience in an accounting role.
  • Strong analytical and MS Excel skills, knowledge and understanding of accounting systems and processes for reporting purposes.
  • Proven business analysis skills with the ability to work with technical specialists to produce effective solutions.
  • Experience in working in a complex financial environment, preferably in an SOE or commercial environment.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic business environment, influence and collaborate with people internally and externally, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful business outcomes.

Beneficial:

  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent.
  • Project Accounting experience.
  • Experience utilising automation tools like Adaptive Insights.
