About the Team:
Aeropath is a business
unit within AIL and offers a unique and wide range of services in aeronautical
information management (AIM) and the design of instrument flight procedures
(IFP). Aeropath operates domestically and internationally, and our customers
include airports, airlines, pilots, ANSPs and civil aviation authorities.
About the Role:
Due to internal
progression, we have an opportunity for someone to step up into the role of Navigation
Procedure Designer on a full-time permanent bases, based in the AON Centre in
central Wellington.
Reporting to the Team
Leader Procedure Design, in this role you’ll be responsible for the design,
validation and maintenance of safe and efficient visual and instrument flight
procedures (IFP) in accordance with a Certificate issued under New Zealand
Civil Aviation Rule Part 173.
Key tasks and responsibilities include:
- Designing and the revision of all types of visual and instrument flight procedures as authorised by Manager Procedure Design or a Principal Designer.
- Provisioning of accurate and operationally useable procedures in an environment that is increasingly dynamic and sensitive to the intrusive nature of aircraft operations.
- Preparing submissions to CAA and AIM for publication of the developed IFP.
- Adhering to the Aeropath Systems Manuals and other Procedure Design technical and quality process documentation.
- Liaising with and maintaining an excellent working relationships and co-operation with key internal and external customers.
- Continued
professional development in the fields of air navigation, PANS-OPS criteria and
tools and methods for design and evaluation of flight procedures.

About You:
To achieve success, you’ll be renowned for your interpersonal skills, the
ability to effectively prioritise towards meeting tight deadlines and for your
proactive nature.
Additionally, you’ll hold:
- Tertiary qualification equivalent to National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 5 or above, with emphasis on technical skills.
- Competency in the use of standard MS Office software suite.
- The ability to work in a
dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience
and agility, take ownership, and focus on delivering successful outcomes.
Beneficial:
- Completed ICAO PANS-OPS course or equivalent instrument flight procedure design course.
- Experience in design, development or validation of the instrument flight procedures, especially PBN flight procedures.
- Experience in flight operations either as a flight crew, ATC or performance engineer.
- Experience with CAD and GIS software applications.
- Sound understanding of the principles of operation of modern ground-based and space-based navigation systems.
- Familiarity with ICAO Standards and recommended practices (SARP).
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
- Understanding of mapping projections and basic geodesy.
