About the Team:
The Technology business unit is responsible for the effective delivery, management and services of all technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment – engineering design, software design and development, technology architecture and infrastructure, asset management, installation and maintenance, technical training, workload planning, maintenance program development, project management, and logistics support.

As a safety critical, high availability, distributed system; air traffic management system engineering is the top of the heap in terms of complexity. There is no down time, system must run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even during system upgrades. 

This flows into the telecommunication network not being your standard critical comms network and is equally complex to ensure the services work as expected.

The Network Support team carry out the ongoing activities and procedures required to operate, manage, and maintain the network infrastructure. This includes the responsibility for the performance and availability of the networks and network management systems.

A major focus is on the implementation and support of network changes to the Airways operational networks and international client networks as required. 

About the role:
We are hiring are a permanent full-time Network Support Engineer to join us at our Christchurch based campus.

Airways NZ Network Support Engineers are responsible for the operation and continuity of delivered network services. This includes fault finding, hardware and software configuration, network performance and improvements, while ensuring enterprise and operational network security and integrity are maintained.

About you:
You’ll be highly skilled in network management, operation, and support. Able to research solutions for any request assigned to you or the team and work with minimal guidance.

Additionally, you’ll be experienced in coaching and mentoring the performance and development of junior or trainee team members.

For success (and to be considered) you’ll hold:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a technology related discipline (diploma or degree level)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a network support or network operation role, in a complex critical infrastructure environment
  • Experience gained in organisations of similar size (800+ employees) and complexity (SOE with multiple locations and companies, running a mix of IT/OT)
  • A safety mindset with being able to effectively assess and communicate risks
  • Proven technical skills using various vendor routing, switching and security platforms.
  • Expert knowledge of multicast across mixed vendor environments
  • Interest in developing automation of network tasks
  • Proven high standard of clear design documentation
  • Experience in security by design concepts
  • A passion for excellence and attention to detail.

Beneficial:
Previous senior level experience as a network support engineer in the telecommunications or banking sectors, or other large multi-platform environments.
