About the Team:
The Technology business unit is responsible for the effective delivery, management and services of all technology disciplines within the air navigation services environment – engineering design, software design and development, technology architecture and infrastructure, asset management, installation and maintenance, technical training, workload planning, maintenance program development, project management, and logistics support.

The purpose of the IT&SM team is to improve the performance of the organisation and to support and enable the Airways strategy through IT, digital services and leadership. IT&SM lead the provision of good practice IT, digital services, and systems in the areas of workplace technology, corporate business applications, digital engagement, digital document management, Information management, IT operations and desktop support

About the Role:
We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Auckland office. Our Auckland team are based at and opposite The Quad (Leonard Isitt Drive, Auckland Airport) which is within walking distance from Countdown, Chemist Warehouse, Jetts Fitness, cafes, take-away shops, and restaurants.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Ensure the security, resilience, and performance of Airways’ corporate IT infrastructure and end-user computing environment.
  • Champion the adoption of modern technologies, including cloud services, automation, and infrastructure as code.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards (ISO 27001, NIST), ITIL best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, technology partners, and external vendors to optimize IT services.

About You:
For success you will have a strategic mind, technical depth, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable and secure IT solutions.

Additionally, you will hold:

  • Relevant qualification be it a degree, diploma and/or vendor certification.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience working with infrastructure in a senior systems role in an enterprise environment with demonstratable or equivalent experience.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft environments, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, VMware, and Nutanix.
  • Experience working with HP DHCI clusters / Alletra storage hardware and eco systems, including HPE NTX clusters and HPE Vsan clusters.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems, highly virtualised environments and desktop applications (primarily Microsoft Office suite and cloud variants).
  • Experience in managing and configuring Microsoft 365 suite, including but not limited to Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory, Exchange, and Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Graph) to automate routine tasks and streamline processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging of hardware and software.
  • An understanding of generic coding and testing methodologies as well as server-based applications.
  • Experience configuring, tuning, and optimising.
  • Knowledge of current (and legacy) applications and tools.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team and business environment, collaborate with people, show resilience and agility, take ownership and focus on delivering successful outcomes.

Beneficial:

  • Experience in backup and disaster recovery.
  • Experience in working with HAM and SAM applications.
  • Experience with containers and the management thereof.
  • Familiarity with UNIX operating systems and deliverables (including Linux).
  • Demonstratable experience coaching and mentoring junior team members.
