Our people manage New Zealand's 30 million square kms of airspace, providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping, and airspace design services. We work with government, regulatory authorities, airlines, airports, and the general aviation community to ensure pilots, passengers and goods reach their destination - safely. About the Team:
The Technology Group is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure that enables Airways to deliver its Air Traffic Management services nationally and within our Pacific FIR. Airways technical assets are spread widely across the country and form a resilient mission critical infrastructure of national significance. Systems are often located in areas that are remote.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager National Operations & Maintenance this senior role is intended to deliver a Test philosophy and practice for the Technology Group, ensuring the group can deliver an end-to-end test function aligned to industry best practice (for both hardware and software).

The key benefit will be improved outcomes for our mission critical operations, but we intend this to expand into a wider team capability that will bring benefit to other groups as well.

To reach the necessary scale of operations, the existing engineering teams and SMEs will continue to create and deliver testing appropriate for their functions, with this role acting to guide and design the frameworks that combine these under a single managed process.

We intend that wherever possible that all testing will be script based and automated and this role will be responsible for creating and managing this environment.

The role will need to work closely with existing development and technical teams, with particular regard to DO-278. Airways operates within a regulated environment and this role will need to work with our regulator.

As it’s a national role, we’re open to it being based in either Auckland (airport) or Christchurch (Burnside).

About You:
You are a specialist when it comes to the implementation of good practice test environments and uplifting capability.

Part of your success sprouts from your pro-active nature, strategic vision, delivery focus and the utilisation of automation without comprising quality.

In addition to the above, to be successful in the role you will have:

  • Ideally a tertiary qualification in business or in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ strong test management experience gained in a business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and maintain relationships with diverse teams and people.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex information.
  • Understanding and experience in developing guidelines, frameworks, and systems to support required business processes and policies.
  • Extensive practical experience in test systems, preparing reports and strategic communications around testing best practice.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic business environment, influence and collaborate with people internally and externally, show resilience and agility, take ownership, and focus on delivering successful outcomes.

Beneficial:

  • Prior experience delivering a test practice in a large commercial and regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of the aviation industry especially from a test perspective.
